Job Description

Gem State Staffing in Pocatello is seeking an experienced, hardworking, and versatile Pipe Layer / Heavy Equipment Operator to join a growing excavation team. This position is perfect for someone who isn't afraid to wear multiple hats and enjoys working in a hands-on, fast-paced construction environment.

If you have experience in excavation, underground utilities, pipe installation, heavy equipment operation, grading, trenching, site development, or general construction, we want to hear from you!

This is a long-term opportunity with the potential to work on a variety of commercial, residential, and civil construction projects. Some travel to surrounding areas may be required.

What You'll Do

As a Pipe Layer / Heavy Equipment Operator, you'll be an essential part of the crew, assisting with every phase of underground utility installation and site preparation.

Job Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

· Install underground water, sewer, storm drain, and utility pipe.

· Read grade stakes, blueprints, and construction plans.

· Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

· Excavate trenches to proper depth and grade.

· Backfill, compact, and restore excavation sites.

· Perform site grading, trenching, and earthmoving operations.

· Assist with underground utility installation and repairs.

· Set manholes, catch basins, vaults, and utility structures.

· Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment.

· Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.

· Work alongside crew members to complete projects safely and efficiently.

· Follow OSHA safety standards and excavation safety procedures.

· Assist wherever needed to keep projects moving forward.

Required Qualifications

· Previous excavation, construction, underground utility, or pipe laying experience preferred.

· Heavy equipment operating experience.

· Ability to safely work in trenches and around underground utilities.

· Experience using construction hand and power tools.

· Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.

· Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

· Strong work ethic with excellent attendance.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.

· Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.

· Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

· Ability to pass pre-employment screening.

What We're Looking For

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday–Friday
  • Saturdays as needed
  • Some travel to surrounding job sites may be required
  • $17.00–$40.00 per hour DOE (based on experience, certifications, equipment knowledge, and overall skill set)
