Job Description

Gem State Staffing is seeking a Self-Help Construction Site Supervisor for a full-time position in Twin Falls, Idaho. This role serves as the on-site construction leader for a self-help housing program, supervising daily residential construction activities while teaching construction skills to group members and volunteers with little or no prior experience.

The Self-Help Construction Site Supervisor works closely with the Construction Manager to ensure homes are built safely, correctly, on schedule, and in compliance with building codes and quality standards. This is an ideal role for experienced construction professionals who enjoy mentoring, leadership, and community-focused work.

Responsibilities:

Construction & Training-

  • Teach and guide group members through the construction of their mutual self-help homes
  • Train participants in residential construction methods, including:
    • Foundation and concrete setup
    • Framing, trusses, roofing, and siding
    • Window and door installation
    • Insulation, drywall, interior carpentry, painting
    • Cabinets, flooring, and finish work
    • Landscaping, grading, sprinkler systems, and site work
  • Plan work schedules, delegate tasks, and lead hands-on training sessions
  • Perform daily inspections to maintain quality control, building code compliance, and best practices
  • Maintain accurate field records and site documentation

Site Management

  • Coordinate group members, volunteers, subcontractors, and inspectors
  • Supervise multiple construction sites and groups simultaneously
  • Maintain daily logs, time sheets, progress reports, and documentation
  • Manage materials, tools, equipment, and deliveries
  • Maintain group member time sheets
  • Identify and resolve job-site issues efficiently

Safety & Leadership

  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards
  • Conduct safety meetings and job-site inspections
  • Ensure proper PPE use and safe tool operation
  • Maintain a safe, productive, and positive work environment
  • Address and resolve on-site conflicts professionally

Subcontractor Coordination

  • Coordinate subcontractor workflow and compliance
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction plans
  • Schedule inspections and communicate issues to the Construction Manager
  • Act as liaison between subcontractors, inspectors, and group members

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with construction documents, land acquisition, bidding, and pre-construction meetings
  • Support reporting, invoicing, change orders, warranties, and inventories
  • Maintain tool, equipment, and material inventories
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (construction-related degree preferred)
  • 3–5 years of residential construction experience (supervisory experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction phases and building codes
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (Word, Excel, documentation software)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, and operate construction tools safely
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad hands-on experience from excavation to finish work
  • Knowledge of OSHA, energy requirements, zoning, and blueprint reading
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and specialty trades
  • First Aid / CPR certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred)
  • Construction management or self-help housing experience

Schedule: Evenings and Saturdays required (schedule flexibility available)
