Construction General Laborer

A General Laborer in construction plays a vital support role on job sites by assisting skilled tradespeople and ensuring smooth daily operations. This position involves physically demanding tasks such as site preparation, material handling, and job site cleanup. Laborers also operate various tools, construct temporary structures, and strictly adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Site Preparation

• Clear debris and obstructions from the construction area
• Dig trenches, backfill holes, and compact earth
• Assist in grading and preparing surfaces

2. Material Handling

• Load, unload, and transport construction materials
• Move tools, equipment, and supplies as needed on-site

3. Assisting Skilled Trades

• Support carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other trades
• Hold materials, measure, and perform basic setup and cleanup

4. Tool and Equipment Operation

• Use basic hand tools (e.g., hammers, drills, saws)
• Operate power tools and machinery (e.g., jackhammers) under supervision

5. Temporary Structure Work

• Assemble and dismantle scaffolding, bracing, and barricades
• Erect safety structures and temporary walkways

6. Site Cleanup

• Keep work areas clean and organized
• Remove waste, debris, and hazardous materials promptly

7. Safety Compliance

• Follow all site-specific and general safety protocols
• Wear appropriate PPE (helmets, gloves, goggles, etc.)
• Report safety concerns or violations immediately

Skills and Qualifications

• Physical Stamina: Capable of standing, lifting, and working outdoors for long hours
• Basic Construction Knowledge: Familiar with tools, materials, and basic building practices
• Tool Proficiency: Ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently
• Safety Awareness: Understands and practices OSHA safety guidelines
• Team Collaboration: Works well with others and takes direction from supervisors
• Problem-Solving: Able to identify and address minor on-site issues
• Attention to Detail: Follows instructions accurately to meet job specs
