Job Description:
Framing Carpenters work in many different settings, but most of them involve some kind of new construction or renovation work. They are generally involved in sourcing construction material, traveling to sites where work is being done and giving accurate cost and time estimates for clients. While Framing Carpenters work in a variety of jobs, their typical duties include:
Rough framing and building wooden structures, including walls, roofs and flooring
Doing joinery work that includes installing joists and studs, installing flashing and securing structural supports
Performing finish work, such as new moldings and interior fixtures
Designing custom furniture, cabinets, cupboards and interior walls
Estimating material and time costs for projects, including costs for labor, wood materials and fasteners
Choosing the appropriate wood materials for interior and outdoor projects, choosing high-quality materials and matching clients’ budgets
Working with general contractors, clients and suppliers to complete projects within time and resource constraints
Interpreting blueprints and technical drawings and building in compliance with local code standards
