Gem State Staffing along side of The Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking employees to fill various positions for our 2024 sugar beet harvest season! BEET HARVEST: Amalgamated Sugar will be starting their harvest season end of September/beginning of October through November. This is a great opportunity to make that extra income for the holidays! We have various positions available. We are needing 20+ employees if you are interested come into our office for more information.

Open Positions:

Sorters- Duties and responsible for removing any foreign material as the potatoes are being unloaded from the trucks, pulling rocks, vines, etc. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and will be required to climb 2 to 3 stairs to get on sorting deck.

Platform- Will be assisting trucks in backing up to conveyor belts to initiate unloading. Raising stinger arm to proper height and opening gate to unload the trucks. Experience preferred but not required.

Samplers-Will be responsible for taking 3 sets of samples from each truck and testing potato quality per ISDA standards. This job requires some math skills, and you must be able to lift 30lbs, as well as read/write in English. Will be taking a tote of potatoes from the beginning, middle, and end of the load then slicing into the potato to sample the qualities.

Remote Operators- Duties are ensuring the potatoes are being loaded into the cellar properly with minimal bruising or damage. Ensuring the pile doesn't get too high into the cellar and pile is as even as possible. Must not be afraid of heights as you will be on a catwalk above the cellar floor.

Equipment Operators- Will be operating a variety of machinery including but not limited to skid steer, conveyer belts, pilers, and more. Operators will also be assisting trucks in backing up to conveyor belts to initiate unloading. Raising stinger arm to proper height and opening gate to unload the trucks. Experience preferred but not required.

Heavy Duties-Duties will be laying down pipe across the cellar floor to ensure the potato pile will be properly ventilated, shoveling potatoes and dirt, assisting with site cleanup, as well as other duties that are assigned.

General Labors: Laborers will assist with a variety of tasks necessary in the harvesting of sugar beets. Work will include backing in trucks, helping with harvest, shoveling, cleaning the storage warehouse, and ser vented pipes. Laborers may also operate pliers or be on a platform and drive a loader and/or dump truck as necessary. Other miscellaneous tasks may be required. The job will entail significant, repetitive heavy lifting and a lot of standing/moving

• Must pass “Fit for duty”:
• Job duties can be physical demand such as diffing and climbing ladders.
• Heavy lifting and must be able to work in all outdoor elements.
• Also able to lift, stoop, kneel and bend without assistance.
• Pack more than a lunch as the day will be long.
• Must be fluent in English.
• Orientation: watch safety video before starting.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Committed to working at least 4-6 weeks Mon- Sat long hours.
